SAT Reasoning Test Question Types : 1) Reading 2) Writing 3) Math

The SAT, along with the ACT, is the standardised test required for admission in top universities, primarily in the Unites States. The SAT is not an IQ or knowledge based test, but a test based on aptitudes and skills, and is meant to asses the skills considered necessary to any student embarking on an undergraduate journey, regardless of the course chosen.

The SAT is a paper based test that takes almost 4 hours to complete. It consists of multiple choice questions that asses Math and Critical Reading & Writing Skills, as well as a 50 minutes optional essay. The candidates receive separate scores for the Math sections (out of 800), Critical Reading and Writing Sections (out of 800), and the essay (our of 24). As opposed to the old version of the SAT, the new one does not penalise test takers for wrong answers.

The minimum requirement for doing well on this test is a strong foundation of high school math concepts, as well as a strong foundation of English grammar and good comprehension skills. The good news when it comes to standardised tests is that success depends on a combination of the right motivation, the right strategy and enough time to prepare. Once these 3 are in place, perfect practice will lead to a perfect score.

SAT 2 Subject Tests

SAT Subjects Tests are a requirement for college admissions to many universities across the USA, and seen as an advantage for others. Some schools even consider the results in the Subject Tests against credit for some introductory courses.

The SAT Subject tests spread cross five different areas: Mathematics, English, Science, Languages and History, with a total of 20 subjects to choose from. Each tests lasts for one hour and is scored out of 800. They are administered on the same dates as the SAT test, at the same centres.

Students can choose which Subject Tests they wish to take, as well as how many. Most schools that require these tests are asking for 2 results, and they should preferably be from different areas. In choosing the subject you should consider your strengths, your passion as well as the particular major you are applying for.

Subject Tests are a great opportunity for you to showcase your knowledge in a certain area, which will convince the schools of your passion for the study discipline you wish to pursue. And since they are subjects you have been learning about in school, it should not be too much out of your comfort zone. Preparations for SAT Subject Tests revolves around understanding the strategies and approach, and with the proper guidance you can achieve impressive scores. That’s what we focus on at Brighter-Prep in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

What is the good SAT score for admission?

Although old SAT was scored out of 2400 unlike the new SAT of 1600, your score of 2400 is still is valid till next four years to apply.

Let’s look at SAT 2016. What is the good score?

It is important for our students to know that 1000 is the average score. This means that if you are scoring 1000 on new SAT you are scoring better than half of the SAT test takers but there is another half that is better than you.

Saying so, you must have inferred that 1200 and above is a good SAT score to look at. However, to what extend is this score good for your target universities is another question that we can help you answer.

Consider a student who is academically superb. Studies all day to get admission in one of the top universities and get a score of 1600. At the same time, you might be a pop star or national footballer. You have to balance the time you have among studies, extracurricular, and then our favourite test SAT. What do you think- will the university

Application process will be fair or biased with you?

And this is your AAHaa moment. The universities are finally not that bad. You will for sure be given some leverage.

After all you will be helping your university represent in your area. You will be helping other students such as our 1600 scorer to live a little more than books.

Again, we at brighter prep make sure that our students present the applications in the best possible way. We will help you find the answer to what is your high score.

With our one on one guidance sessions you will know exactly what to do, when to do and how to do.

SAT Test vs ACT Test Prep Courses in Dubai & Abu Dhabi.

SAT  Test vs ACT  Test Prep Courses in Dubai & Abu Dhabi

Basic differences

If you’re interested in applying to schools in the United States, you’ve likely heard about the SAT. The SAT tests reading, writing, and math skills, and gives the colleges and universities that you’re applying to an easy way to compare you to other students. Of course, this is not the only criteria they use for admission, but it is very important. You may have also heard some people talk about the “ACT” exam. Like the SAT, the ACT is used by colleges and universities in admissions decisions. All colleges and universities in the United States will accept both.*

So which exam should you take? Let’s look at some key differences:

The SAT tests 3 primary areas, which are divided up into 10 sections. The Verbal section tests reading comprehension and vocabulary. The Math section tests your quantitative skills. The Writing section asks you to write a brief essay in 25 minutes. Then it tests your ability to identify and correct mistakes in grammar, syntax, and rhetoric.

The ACT tests 4 primary areas, which are divided up into 4 sections. The English section tests your ability to identify and correct mistakes in grammar, syntax, and rhetoric, however the level of grammar is generally more difficult than that of the SAT. The Math section involves a deeper knowledge of mathematical concepts than the SAT does, but the questions are more straightforward. The Reading section tests your ability to comprehend passages of prose, social science, humanities, and natural science. Unlike the SAT, it does not ask you to complete sentences with advanced vocabulary words. The Science section tests your ability to understand charts, graphs, and opposing viewpoints. It does not require any specialized knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, etc. The ACT also has a 30 minute optional writing section (however, many universities in the US require students to take the writing portion).

Each section of the SAT prep test is scored on a scale of 200-800. Each of these scores is added together for a total score of 600-2400. The average score is roughly a 1500.

Each section of the ACT prep test is scored on a scale of 0-36. Each of these scores is averaged together for a total score of 0-36. The average score is roughly a 21.

The SAT Test lasts for 3 hours and 45 minutes.

The ACT Test lasts for 3 hours and 25 minutes with the writing section.

Which exam is harder?

This is a very common question we get. The truth is that each examine is difficult for different reasons. The SAT test Prep Course is a bit like a puzzle. It’s not necessarily about how much you know, but rather how well you can figure out the exams most common tricks. Among the more difficult part for students is learning the commonly-tested vocabulary words. The ACT focuses a little bit more on applying knowledge to problems. The difficulty here lies in learning all of the mathematical and grammatical concepts that will come up. Both test your ability to read and think critically about a number of reading passages.

So which exam should I take?

If you are applying to schools in the US, we recommend that you actually take both exams. At Brighter Prep Dubai & Abu Dhabi , we can help you prepare for both exams with courses and practice tests. Once you receive your scores, our trainers and consultants can tell you which is more competitive for college admissions. We’ve had many students who took one exam and didn’t get the score they were hoping for, so they prepared for the other exam and did much better. By taking both, you give yourself a better chance at getting the score necessary to get into the college of your choice!

Finally, Brighter Prep Provides Training Classes for both SAT & ACT Test prep Courses in Dubai & Abu Dhabi.
