Structure of the Digital LNAT

LNAT is a 2-hour, 15-minute online test with two Sections

Section A : : Multiple Choice Questions

This section consists of 42 multiple-choice questions based on passages of text, which you are expected to solve in 95 minutesThe questions assess your ability to interpret and analyze the content, and to make logical deductions.

Section B : : Essay Writing

Students need to write an essay based on one of three essay topics provided, within 40 minutesThe essay assesses your ability to develop a clear, reasoned argument, and to express your thoughts in a structured and articulate manner.

The LNAT exam begins on 1st September. It's important to note that students have to take the exam before the submission of college applications. The deadlines for each of the above universities are different. For example, those applying to Oxbridge must complete their exam before the application deadline of 15th October. LNAT can be attempted once a year and the score is valid for the year in which you take the exam.

The LNAT is required by universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, King's College London, Durham, and Bristol, among others. Each university may have specific LNAT score requirements, so it’s important to check the individual admissions pages.

LNAT MCQs are scored out of 42 points, encompassing a range from 0 to 42.

The LNAT is typically available to take between September and January in the year you are applying to university. Check the official LNAT website for specific dates and deadlines, as they may vary slightly each year.

Following your essay submission, you'll receive an LNAT score, ranging from zero to one hundred percent. The grading method aligns with university standards, where 70 percent or more constitutes a first, 60 percent or more is a 2.1, 50 percent or more is a 2.2, and 40 percent or more is a third.

In the second section of the LNAT you will be given 40 minutes to write an essay from a list of three proposed subjects. Here are a few sample essay questions for you to think about. Remember that you get 40 minutes to write a maximum of 750 words – ideally about 500-600 words.
