The PTE Academic is a computer-based test, which means it eliminates any potential examiner bias. The other advantage is that you can take the test thought the year, on any working day, after registering online (preferably more than 48 hours in advance, in order not to be charged an extra fee). As opposed to other tests, the results of the PTE will be sent to you within maximum 5 working days, and many times within just two days.

The PTE Academic focuses on testing real-life language, so the scenarios you will be faced with are university related or common life discussions, all conveyed in a range of different accents mimicking those you will be exposed to in your everyday life. The test assesses listening, reading, speaking and writing in a single three hour session, divided in three parts that comprise of twenty different question types (including a 20 minutes essay).

The test is valid for 2 years and it costs AED 980 (Approx). In the UAE, there are two testing centres in Dubai, one in Abu Dhabi and one in Al Ain.

PTE Scores for communicative skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are based on all test items that assess these skills, either as a single skill or together with other skills.  The range for each communicative skill score is 10-90 points.

Scores for enabling skills (grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse) are based on all test items assessing one or more of these skills.  The range for each enabling skill score is 10-90 points.

The display of the scores in a graph allows you to quickly see your strengths and weaknesses, and how each skill relates to your overall performance.
