The ACT, just like the SAT, is an important component of the undergraduate application package to universities in the Unites States. Most colleges accept either the ACT or the SAT, and most students choose the one most suitable for them based on their existing strengths. The main difference between the two tests is the science section that comes up on the ACT, but not on the SAT. To understand which one you should start preparing for, simply take a mock test of both, and see which one you feel more comfortable with.

Apart from the 40 minutes optional essay section, which is always the last section, the ACT is a multiple choice questions test. The first section is always the one testing English language skills, for which a strong foundation of grammar, punctuation and idioms is required. The Mathematics section is next, which focuses on high school level math concepts and allows the use of a calculator. The Reading section that comes next is based on 4 passages of different topics, each followed by 10 questions testing comprehension of the big picture as well as specific details from the respective passages. The Science Reasoning section is again based on passages, but much more inclined towards Data Interpretation and Research Summary. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

As with the SAT, the more you practice for this test, the higher your scores go. It is not simply about quantity, though, and success does not rest in the number of questions you solve, but in how successfully you learn from each mistake and are able to apply that learning to the next question.

ACT or American College Testing is the standardized test for school and college admissions in US. Administered since 1959, it originally consisted of four tests – English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Natural Sciences. Later, ACT witnessed changes with Social Studies changed to Reading Section, and Natural Sciences renamed as Science Reasoning Test. ACT Test Preparation is offered as a paper-based formats.

ACT is accepted by colleges and universities across US, in addition to class rank, GPA and extracurricular activities of students seeking admissions. ACT was developed on the basis of subjects taught in Grades 7-12. In ACT, the subject test scores range from 1 to 36, with the composite score the average of all the four tests. SAT 2 Subject Tests

SAT Subjects Tests are a requirement for college admissions to many universities across the USA, and seen as an advantage for others. Some schools even consider the results in the Subject Tests against credit for some introductory courses.

The SAT Subject tests spread cross five different areas: Mathematics, English, Science, Languages and History, with a total of 20 subjects to choose from. Each tests lasts for one hour and is scored out of 800. They are administered on the same dates as the SAT test, at the same centres.

Students can choose which Subject Tests they wish to take, as well as how many. Most schools that require these tests are asking for 2 results, and they should preferably be from different areas. In choosing the subject you should consider your strengths, your passion as well as the particular major you are applying for.

Subject Tests are a great opportunity for you to showcase your knowledge in a certain area, which will convince the schools of your passion for the study discipline you wish to pursue. And since they are subjects you have been learning about in school, it should not be too much out of your comfort zone. Preparations for SAT Subject Tests revolves around understanding the strategies and approach, and with the proper guidance you can achieve impressive scores. That’s what we focus on at Brighter-Prep in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
